I think I'm up to #13, which means I need to pick up the pace if I want to finish the series before I drop dead. I enjoy them for what they are - at their not infrequent best, they're efficient, competent adventure SF. I find Dumarest to be a reasonably convincing character in his stoic way, and there's usually one really good fight scene, which was Tubb's strong suit, when all is said and done. It's hard to see how the series as a whole can end in any way other than a colossal anticlimax though, not that I'm likely to ever find out.Thomas Parkernoreply@blogger.com
