Gogos was 16 years old when he and his family immigrated to the U.S. Interested in art from a young age, Gogos spent his early adult years working at various jobs and studying art periodically with the goal of eventually becoming a fine artist. Gogos attended several New York area schools including The National School of Design, The Phoenix School of Design and The School of Visual Arts. While attending the Art Students League of New York, Gogos had his greatest artistic growth studying with noted illustrator Frank J. Reilly. After winning a competition at the school sponsored by Pocket Books, Gogos began his professional career with the cover painting for a western paperback novel called Pursuit published in 1959.Todd Masonhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/01815516018079824802noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-257559067333970126.post-55533047838522199042016-04-01T14:54:43.408-07:002016-04-01T14:54:43.408-07:00Sharkey was already writing pays in the 1960s whil...Sharkey was already writing pays in the 1960s while publishing with Goldsmith/Lalli's magazines...I always wonder how many writers could make a living from Samuel French, Inc. and the community and school-related theaters they would rent their plays to.
The cover artist is probably Basil Gogos, one of the many who'd flit between comics work and fiction-magazine illustration.
Todd Masonhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/01815516018079824802noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-257559067333970126.post-42325090980989963962016-04-01T05:30:43.484-07:002016-04-01T05:30:43.484-07:00I loved the lurid covers on these D-series ACE Dou...I loved the lurid covers on these D-series ACE Doubles! Jack Sharkey is an underrated writer who went on to become a playwright. Brunner went on to write great books like THE JAGGED ORBIT and STAND ON ZANZIBAR.
