You make it ..."Engage with Evelyn Waugh."<br />You make it sound like a wrestling bout! Waugh's prose is always clear and elegant, but at his best he is also very moving. I'd recommend either Sword of Honour, his trilogy/big novel about WWII or A Handful of Dust a little masterpiece.
